Travel, Food, and Slices of Life

About

I’m about to embark on a new chapter of my life. With my youngest now off to college, my older two doing well with their lives, my husband was able to retire and we are moving across the country to Oregon. This adventure was six years in the planning with careful attention to the weather, environment, politics, economics and more.

I have been traveling since I was 3 years old and offer custom trip planning to discriminating travelers who are tired of group tours that offer a standard itinerary for all with no consideration of specific hobbies or interests you and your companions may have. Custom trip planning can give you an enjoyable trip  within your budget and a vacation experience that you will remember and cherish.

Recently I have become involved with the local food system in West Virginia and intend to stay active in Oregon. There are so many foods that are available within 50-100 miles of where we live and I believe knowing my farmer and supporting the local economy makes the most sense to have a healthy life style.

There is a lot to share: travel, food, wine, festivals, and more. Come with me on my journey.

  1. Hello, I’m curious what town in Oregon you decided to move to. We’ve been considering a move there as well. We currently live in Boulder County Colorado but it’s getting so busy and crowded. Time to move on… I enjoyed many of your posts. Thanks for sharing!
    Susan 🙂

    • We moved to McMinnville. It is about 40 miles west of Portland, so close enough for wonderful entertainment and eating options, as well as airport access. We are very involved in farm-to-table and the Willamette Valley is a fertile agricultural area as well as one of the world’s renowned wine-growing areas. Property prices are doing a ridiculous jump right now, as in other areas of the nation. I think with the lower water situation that you are used to in Boulder (compared to my living in the wetter East most of my life), you may be interested to look in areas just east of the Cascades as well. Always stay focused on water rights.

  2. Welcome to Oregon. I live here too….

  3. Glad you stopped by Encore Voyage! Sounds like our paths are somewhat similar. I’m even your Idaho neighbor! And while I do a small bit of canning for myself, I really respect your efforts. I think you have a great idea, and I’ll be happy to follow your adventure!

  4. After Oregon you should visit Turkey 🙂

  5. I can’t wait for retirement too! Glad you liked the Cantankerous Cat story. thanks for dropping by.

  6. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
